Raising Awareness of Acute Myeloid Leukemia and the Urgent Need for Progress – Servier

Servier shared a post on LinkedIn:

” Tomorrow is World AML Awareness Day

Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is an aggressive blood cancer that accounts for approximately 33% of adult leukemias. Around 161,000 new cases are diagnosed worldwide each year, with incidence increasing over the past 30 years.

The disease primarily affects older adults, with a median age at diagnosis of around 70 years.

AML is characterized by the rapid proliferation of abnormal myeloid cells in the bone marrow, which interferes with normal blood cell production. Without prompt treatment, the disease progresses quickly.

Despite therapeutic advances over the past decade, including targeted therapies and improved molecular characterization the five-year overall survival is around 30%, and drops below 15% in patients over 60 years old.

Substantial unmet needs remain, and research is crucial to address them and improve treatment personalization.

At Servier, we are committed to fighting rare cancers and contributing to progress in oncology. Today, nearly 70% of our R&D budget is dedicated to this therapeutic area.

Join us tomorrow in supporting AML patients, caregivers, and researchers in their daily fight against this rare cancer.
