Joanna Metzner-Sadurski Shares Arturo LoAIza-Bonilla’s Vision for the Future of AI in Oncology

Joanna Metzner-Sadurski, Medical Doctor at Self Regional Healthcare and Executive Director of Oncology101.org, shared a post by Arturo LoAIza-Bonilla, Systemwide Chief of Hematology and Oncology at St. Luke’s University Health Network, and Co-Founder and Chief Medical  AI Officer (CMAIO) of Massive Bio, on LinkedIn, adding:

Arturo LoAIza-Bonilla MD Congratulations on this incredible gathering of minds and the important work being done at the intersection of AI and biology. The pace of innovation truly feels like a tsunami of discovery, especially in oncology – from target discovery to clinical trial matching and precision medicine.

As exciting as these advances are, we must also remember that patients need to be partners in this transformation. Scientific breakthroughs only reach their full potential when patients understand their options, clinical trials, and treatment pathways.

Translating complex science into clear, accessible patient education is essential. This is exactly why initiatives like Oncology 101.org  are so important – helping patients understand their disease, their treatments, and how to participate in research.

The future of oncology will not be built by technology alone, but by technology, clinicians, and informed patients working together. Patients as partners actively involved. Education i should not a hand out. It should be CLEAR, engaging and accessible.”

Quoting Arturo LoAIza-Bonilla‘s post:

“Honored to attend the AI Applications in Biology 2026 at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Biohub.

Deep gratitude to the organizers – and especially Dr. Priscilla Chan – for their bold commitment to advancing AI innovation in biology. The energy in the room was extraordinary Global leaders in science, engineering, and medicine gathered to share breakthroughs that are already reshaping cancer care and drug discovery.

What struck me most. Many of the most transformative AI applications in biology are directly impacting oncology – from foundation models of cellular systems to accelerated target discovery and translational pipelines that compress timelines from years to months.

It was a privilege to exchange ideas with pioneers pushing the frontier. A highlight was connecting with Salvatore Candido (Sal), now VP at CZI, and seeing the next-level vision he’s advancing following his work at Evolutionary Scale and now at Biohub. The scale and ambition are inspiring.

As System Chief of Hematology and Oncology at St. Luke’s University Health Network and Co-Founder and Chief Medical AI Officer at Massive Bio, I see firsthand how these innovations must bridge research and real-world care.

At Massive Bio, we are building multi-agentic and neuro symbolic AI infrastructure to transform how cancer research is delivered – accelerating clinical trial access, precision matching, and real-world evidence generation at scale.

Now energized to return to the clinic – because every breakthrough must ultimately translate to the patient in front of us. That’s where innovation proves its worth.

Collaboration, Vision, Impact. The future of AI in oncology is being built – together. ”
