Omar Abdihamid, Clinical Oncologist at Shabaha Cancer Centre and Clinical Oncology Specialist at HCGCCK Cancer Centre, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I’ve just wrapped up a valuable two-day visit at the National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Breast Cancer Center, Cairo University. The discussions reinforced how specialized, disease-specific cancer centers can significantly improve patient care, coordination, and outcomes when designed around the patient journey.
Key sessions that stood out for me:
- Structured patient navigation programs
- Patient education as a core pillar of quality cancer care
- Egypt’s Presidential Initiative on Breast Cancer, which has meaningfully expanded access to modern treatments, including immunotherapy and targeted therapies
Grateful to the AstraZeneca Egypt team and the Kenya Society of Haematology and Oncology (KESHO) for facilitating this exchange, and special thanks to the outstanding faculty led by Emad Shash.
Important lessons here for the region as we continue to strengthen comprehensive and equitable cancer care models across Africa.”
