Global Standards for Nurse-to-Patient Ratios in Pediatric Oncology – ACT 4 Children

ACT 4 Children shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Regardless of a country’s income level, the recommended baseline universal nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5 for general pediatric oncology units and 1:2 for critical care and transplant units, as per the International Society of Paediatric Oncology – SIOP.

Expert nursing care is fundamental to improving access to safe and effective treatment for children with cancer. Unfortunately, low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) often face a scarcity of nursing staff that leads to a lower overall nurse-to-patient ratio. Many health centers in these countries have nurses rotate between different specialties, compromising specialized care.

ACT 4 Children is bringing together healthcare industry, the medical community and nonprofit organizations to push for improved outcomes in LMICs that include more trained nurses with life-saving resources available to care for children with cancer and their families.

We envision a world where every child can receive the same quality of care, no matter where they live. Share this post if you do, too.”
