Maya Matthews, Deputy Director and Head of the Health Technology Assessment Unit at the European Commission, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“24 hours in Berlin at the biggest meeting of oncologists ESMO25 in Europe and what a mind – blowing experience it was.
I could feel the buzz already on the Sbahn heading to the huge conference centre which welcomed 37 000 participants! Spontaneous chatter between researchers and clinicians across the globe.
I presented the EU Health Technology Assessment Regulation to a packed room with fellow panelists Monica Racovita, Beate Wiesler, Dario Trapani and Christopher Booth.
The common thread running through all the presentations was how to ensure that the innovation wave in cancer treatments truely meets the needs of patients.
We need to ensure that policymakers have the tools and data to make decisions about funding and above all not to forget to listen to patients’ voices.
I learnt so much from the panel which I will take back to my team and colleagues.
I also had a chance to catch up with EORTC – European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer, European Cancer Organisation, Cancer Patients Europe – CPE on how to attract and involve more patients and clinicians in the Joint clinical assessments and joint scientific consultations under the HTAR.
I would like to thank ESMO – European Society for Medical Oncology for inviting me.”
Dario Trapani shared a post by Maya Matthews, adding:
“I am so grateful for the invitation to the ESMO25 session on the future of HTA in EU!
Excited to share the dialogue on the future of the policy decision making on cancer pharmaceuticals with the EU lead European Commission by providing a case study on the cancer biomarker strategy from Italy! ”
