Richard Price, Policy Director at European Cancer Organisation, shared on LinkedIn:
“I had the most interesting experience yesterday of having my liver health checked by a mobile unit on the European Parliament esplanade.
It was a return visit after engaging during last year’s European Liver Screening Week too. I can only speak highly of the intervention. A terrific moment for learning, for receiving public health information that all of us can take heed of, and in my own case, one which has spurred some good changes in health behaviour. Thank you European Liver Patients’ Association – ELPA.
Last year I didn’t quite get the score I would of liked. I took those leaflets and brochures with me, remembered what the health professional advised, and did some thinking on what I could change. I’m pleased to say that 12 months on, all scores are back in the positive zone.
Taking these vital health checks to where the people are – whether for liver, for lung health, or breast and other screenings – makes the big difference. Barriers to access shredded. Convenience for the individual multiplied.
Stay tuned for a forthcoming new report by the European Cancer Organisation on screening to be published at the European Cancer Summit, 19-20 November. Hopefully not spoiling any surprises in telling you – it will be making the case for mobile screening unit deployment fairly forcefully.
P.S. Still time today to get a check yourself, before the van moves on to its next destination.”
