Kimryn Rathmell: Building a Strong Community to End the Threat of Cancer

Kimryn Rathmell, Chief Executive Officer of Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“On World Cancer Research Day, we recognize research’s role as a powerful engine for change. It’s how we have shifted the narrative on cancer from an automatic death sentence to the opportunity for a healthy life after diagnosis, or even preventing people from developing cancer, altogether.

The fuel for that engine is the dedication of researchers, clinicians, partners, advocates, patients, families and so many others who, together, form a strong cancer community. So, today is really a celebration of the people who make life – saving science possible and the millions of lives they’ve touched, as a result.

At Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, we believe research is about more than data and discoveries; it’s about giving patients a chance to live longer, healthier lives. It’s about reaching the day in which we live in a Cancer Free World.

Our science is only as strong as our community. Having a community that engages deeply and brings so much passion to our work makes The James a truly special place.

This is the fuel that allows us to pursue bold ideas, such as improving early detection with new technologies, harnessing the power of A.I. to treat cancer more effectively, and delivering life-saving clinical trials to every corner of Ohio and the U.S. through innovations like telemedicine. We simply could not do this without such vigorous support across the community.

So, today and every day, let’s be reminded that we can achieve incredible progress when we work together with a shared purpose to end the threat of cancer, once and for all.”
