Razelle Kurzrock, Founding Director of Michels Rare Cancers Research Laboratories at the Medical College of Wisconsin and Co-Founder and Board Member at CureMatch, shared a post by Rachel Clarke, Principal Clinical Psychologist at Maudsley Health, adding:
“20 appointments with her “GP practice”
Clever wording. Who did she see— nurse, nurse practitioner, LVN ?; also does the system “disincentivize” referrals? Of course it does You can’t mandate making a correct diagnosis for rare conditions; y’all need less rules, not more.”
Rachel Clarke shared a post by Wes Streeting, Secretary of State for Health & Social Care at Department of Health and Social Care, adding:
“Jess’s rule is hugely welcome – but what would really help diagnosing rare conditions in primary care is continuity of care, and for that we desperately need more GPs.”
Quoting Wes Streeting‘s post:
“Jess Brady should be alive today. But, despite 20 appointments with her GP practice, her cancer was missed until she went private. She died at 27 with stage 4 cancer. Today Jess’s Rule will mean that, after three strikes, GPs must review and rethink.
