Brunilda Haxhiu: Uniting for Better Breast Cancer Care in the Balkans
Brunilda Haxhiu, Deputy Director of the Oncology Clinic at Clinical Center of Kosovo, shared on LinkedIn:
“Uniting for Better Breast Cancer Care in the Balkans
Over the past two days, stakeholders from health ministries, oncology clinics, patient organizations, and international networks came together in Tirana for the forum on breast cancer care organised by Donjeta Zeqa
From keynote insights on EU best practices, to heartfelt testimonies from patient advocates, and policy debates on inequalities in access, the message was clear: regional collaboration is the key to equity.
- Experts stressed the urgent need for cancer registries, screening programs, and joint multidisciplinary teams.
- Ministries and hospitals explored reforms for faster diagnosis, innovative therapies, and sustainable financing.
- Most importantly, patient organizations from Albania, Kosovo, and North Macedonia signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, creating the first cross-border platform dedicated to improving breast cancer care in our region.
This is not just another meeting – it is the beginning of a shared vision of solidarity, collaboration, and equal care for every woman in the Balkans facing breast cancer.”
