“I arrived in London last night and watched all the news about the change of government with an old friend who lives here. There is so much to be done to improve the health system here. Yet surely improvements in survival rates for cancer patients has to be the number one priority. .
Do I say that because I am a cancer survivor? A survivor treated with Radiotherapy which urgently needs investment in technology and workforce here in the UK.
I think cancer needs to be the priority because delays in cancer care kills. Once you have cancer, a clock starts ticking. You need your GP to refer you to a cancer team. You need quick access to diagnostic scans. You need rapid access to the treatment. The clock is ticking. You only have a limited time to achieve survival, or more time with a bearable quality of life.
May the new Secretary of State for Health Wes Streeting do his very best.”
