Johanna Joyce: We explore the brain metastasis niche
Johanna Joyce shared a post on X:
“Niche-labeling strategies can be incredibly informative for investigating different types of cellular communication in vivo – including for the tumor microenvironment..
In this new paper, we explore the brain metastasis niche..
We highlight some considerations when using this approach in established brain metastases, including avid uptake of the niche label by CD206+ brain macrophages..
The mCherry protein is retained in these cells, and can be transferred independent of requiring the sLP portion..
These are some points to be aware of when using fluorescent proteins like mCherry for labeling in the brain..
This study was led by a v talented postdoc in our lab, Matteo Massara.
Thanks also to Bastien Dolfi, Vlad Wischnewski, Emma Nolan for their experimental support.
And with our great appreciation to Ilaria Malanchi and Werner Held for invaluable advice, and providing the labeling constructs.
Finally, our thanks for funding Swiss National Science Foundation, Fondazione AIRC per la ricerca sul cancro, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Ludwig Cancer, Université de Lausanne, Charlie Teo Foundation, CRUK Research, Wellcome, ERC Research.”
