Shahrin Ahmed: The UK is seeing an increase in the number of cases of mouth cancer

“The UK is seeing an increase in the number of cases of mouth cancer –

In the past decade, there has been a significant increase in the number of mouth cancer cases in the UK.

The Oral Health Foundation‘s data suggests that 8,864 individuals in the UK were diagnosed with the disease last year, which is a record-breaking figure.

The increase has risen by 34% from ten years ago and has increased by more than double (103%) over the last 20 years. The tongue is where one-third of mouth cancers (33%) are found, and almost one-fourth (23%) are found on the tonsils.

The lips, gums, inside of the cheeks, as well as the floor and roof of the mouth are also areas that should be checked for mouth cancer.

Mouth cancer rates among men are three times higher than those of women. The disease is rare in individuals under the age of 40 due to its tendency to affect older people. The most vulnerable individuals are those who consume a significant amount of alcohol and are smokers.

It only takes a minute to perform a self-check for mouth cancer, and it could save your life. If you observe something unusual, make an appointment with your dentist. Catching mouth cancer early has a good chance of beating it. Make sure that both you and your loved ones are protected from oral/mouth cancer. ”
