“Wonderful reception organized by Dr. Howard Safran for Legorreta Cancer Center and Lifespan Cancer institute at Jake Melnick’s Sports Bar in Chicago. We celebrated the success of our faculty, our growth, and impact on the field. We congratulated Stephanie Graff on her induction as a Fellow of American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), Don S. Dizon on his role as Editor-in-Chief of American Cancer Society CA journal and as AD for COE at Brown University Cancer, Dr. Sendurai Mani’s impact, Dr. Eric Wong, Dr. Paul DiSilvestro, Dr. Christopher Azzoli, Dr. Cara Mathews, Benedito A. CarneiroRobert W. Sobol Jr., Sean Lawler, Sheldon Holder, several oral presentations and numerous poster presentations at ASCO24 from Rhode Island. We have amazing rising faculty including Dr. Alex Raufi and accomplished fellows including Dr. Kathryn DeCarli. Honored to be part of this illustrious group of colleagues and others at Brown University.”

Wafik El-Deiry, MD, PhD, FACP, FRSM, is the Associate Dean for Oncologic Sciences at the Warren Alpert Medical School and Director of the Legorreta Cancer Center at Brown University and Director of the Joint Program in Cancer Biology at Brown University and affiliated hospitals.Dr. El-Deiry discovered p21(WAF1) as a p53 target gene, cell cycle inhibitor, and tumor suppressor that explained the mammalian cell stress response. Dr. El-Deiry made important contributions in cell death signaling and our understanding of the sensitivity of tumors to chemotherapy. El-Deiry has more than 400 peer-reviewed publications and 5 edited books.
