Sally Wolf: People regularly ask me, with my cancer journey in mind, “what can I do?”.

Quoting Sally Wolf, CEO and Founder of LightWorks, on LinkedIn:

“People regularly ask me, with my cancer journey in mind, “what can I do?”

Here are two simple act of kindness that touched recently:
1. My physical therapist blocked the two tables adjacent to mine.
2. Someone held up a mask, smiled, & offered to wear it in a meeting.

While these shouldn’t feel like extraordinary gestures, they did.
Usually, the onus is on me, as an immunocompromised person, to ask. For either more space or, when that isn’t possible, for someone else to mask.
And while I’m comfortable speaking up, many other immunocompromised folks aren’t.

So back to that question I often get: “What can I do?”. You can offer to mask and/or give extra space indoors. For anyone navigating chronic illness. Or caregiving. Or simply trying to stay healthy.
Given most of these personal conditions or situations are invisible, normalizing offers assures anyone who needs that kindness receives it.
Most of the time you won’t end up needing to wear one. Even I now say “no thank you” when my surroundings are spacious and well-ventilated enough.
But for the 3% of us who are moderately to severely immunocompromised, your offer will be deeply appreciated. Even more than you can imagine.

If you would consider once again carrying a mask in your bag or keeping a supply of them in your office/car to support folks like me, PLEASE support this post with a like, comment or repost.
Together, we can amplify solidarity and kindness as we navigate the latest covid uptick and upcoming flu season. Thank you!”
