“Introducing our regional colleague Urvashi Negi, Program Coordinator in India and Sri Lanka since 2018. Learn more about how she’s making a difference in South Asia.

Host: Why did you start working at The Max Foundation?

Urvashi Negi: My uncle’s diagnosis of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia led him to receive treatment through The Max Foundation, which is where I heard first about the organization. While he’s no longer part of the program, his journey shed light on the impactful work the foundation carries out. Following my marriage and relocation to Mumbai in 2018, I connected with Viji Venkatesh through my uncle’s son, and since then, the journey has been nothing short of transformative.

Host: Describe a typical workday:

Urvashi Negi: I opt for an early start to win against the chaotic and unpredictable Mumbai traffic. I finally arrive at the office by 8:45 am. Typically, I begin by addressing any help requests that we have received and taking the necessary actions to resolve them. If we have a patient visiting the office that day, then I spend time talking to them, clearing their queries, and helping them with reimbursements. The day concludes with wrapping up any outstanding tasks, updating any progress made, and preparing my to-do list for the next day.

Host: What is a special memory you have with patients?

Urvashi Negi: We are truly fortunate to have an office that provides us with regular interactions with patients, whether they visit us or attend patient meetings that take place in the office. Recently I got an opportunity to interact with not only the patient but also his young children, whom we support through the Friends of Max Project Shiksha [provides educational grants]. Learning about their academic achievements and witnessing their growth filled me with immense joy.

Host: What languages do you speak?

Urvashi Negi: Hindi and English

Host: Who are your role models?

Urvashi Negi: Our patients’ courage in facing illness and uncertainty serves as a constant source of inspiration for me. Their unwavering determination and calm demeanor amidst adversity showcase the resilience needed to navigate life’s challenges.

Host: Which superhero is your favorite and why?

Urvashi Negi: Captain Marvel is one of my favorite superheroes because she represents strength, courage, and independence. She inspires people to be their best selves through her leadership and unwavering determination. Just like Max, she is a symbol of hope and empowerment for many.”
