Ruben Mesa, MD, President of Atrium Health Levine Cancer, worked on the steering committee that helped put together the American Association for Cancer Research Cancer Disparities Progress Report 2024. It addresses disparity challenges, the work that has been done to create change and issues a call to action.
‘This report is incredibly important,’ says Dr. Mesa. ‘We can’t fix the equity issues in cancer care without recognizing the problem first. It’s why ‘for all’ is at the core of Atrium Health’s mission and I couldn’t be prouder to be part of this work.'”

Dr. Ruben A. Mesa, MD, FACP, serves as the president and executive director of Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute (LCI) and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center. Additionally, he holds the position of vice dean for cancer programs and professor of medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He is an international expert in hematologic cancers, particularly myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). Through his tireless efforts, Dr. Mesa continues to drive progress in the understanding and treatment of hematologic malignancies, offering hope to those affected by these complex diseases.
