Maria (Masha) Babak: Another important figure we should celebrate this Women’s History Month is Dr. Mary Claire King
Maria (Masha) Babak, Assistant Professor at City University of Hong Kong, shared on LinkedIn:
“Another important figure we should celebrate this Women’s History Month is Dr. Mary Claire King.
Renowned for her groundbreaking work in genetics, Mary-Claire King identified the BRCA1 gene, which is linked to hereditary breast cancer. Her discoveries have paved the way for advancements in cancer risk assessment and personalized medicine.
King’s career has been marked by her dedication to applying genetics to address complex human issues. Beyond her work on cancer genetics, she has also applied her expertise to human rights work, using genetic analysis to reunite families with children kidnapped during the Argentine Dirty War and to identify victims of human rights abuses.”
