The success story of C/Can’s engagement in Cali, Colombia – City Cancer Challenge
Quoting City Cancer Challenge on LinkedIn:
“Healthcare sustainability is a daunting challenge amidst the ever-changing political landscape and competing investment priorities. Recently, healthcare advocates met in Geneva for an event hosted by the Permanent Mission of Colombia to the United Nations and City Cancer Challenge to discuss how to implement global cancer recommendations in local contexts.
The event showcased the success story of C/Can’s engagement in Cali, Colombia, and how the city has become a regional leader in providing quality and equitable cancer care. The solutions developed in Cali include a multidisciplinary approach, standardization of care, and training of healthcare professionals.
The discussion also highlighted the challenges of insufficient health financing in LMICs, especially for NCDs like cancer. Mathieu Morand, Director of Health Financing and Innovation, emphasized the need for new domestic health financing sources and strategic allocation of investments to mitigate out-of-pocket expenditures and coverage gaps.”
