Sandrine Piret-Gerard: Why Pausing Isn’t Weakness – It’s Strategy
Sandrine Piret-Gerard, Senior Vice President, US Commercial at Gilead Sciences, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Every year, the week before Labor Day, I step away. Same place. Same friend. Same pause.
For years, I thought productivity meant filling every moment – checking my phone, racing to the next thing, never stopping. But I’ve learned that the opposite is true. In a world that never stops, the real luxury isn’t more time – it’s giving myself permission to pause.
Pausing isn’t only about slowing down. It’s where clarity shows up. Where perspective returns. Where energy is renewed. In a culture that celebrates speed, choosing stillness feels almost radical. The pause isn’t weakness – it’s strategy.
One of the things I value about Gilead Sciences is that we make space for the pause. With two company-wide shutdown weeks each year, we’re reminded that taking time off isn’t just allowed – it’s encouraged. Because when we return, we don’t just come back to work – we come back reset.”
