Jon Burke: £400 Raised for Cancer Research UK
Jon Burke, Climate Change and Decarbonisation Lead at Gloucester City Council, shared on LinkedIn:
“£400 raised for Cancer Research UK (CRUK) at our Friday night six-a-side tournament. Maybe not much in the greater scheme of things, but ‘no greater mistake was made than by he who did nothing because he could only do a little’.
Getting back into football over the last couple of years after a long absence has absolutely transformed my physical and mental health; I’ve made friends for life; and helped raise thousands for local good causes.
Loneliness and isolation is a killer and we’re facing an epidemic of it. Imagine the social and public health benefits, not to mention the taxpayer savings, that would be generated if we had a national sport programme that anyone could get involved with at the touch of an app.
It ought to be a strategic national priority.
Activate.”
