Bruce Cozadd: 22 Incredible Years Leading Jazz Pharmaceuticals

Bruce Cozadd, Co-founder of and Chair of the Board Jazz Pharmaceuticals, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“After 22 incredible years leading Jazz Pharmaceuticals, I’m filled with deep gratitude and pride as I retire as CEO.

When I co-founded Jazz in 2003, I had two guiding aspirations: to make a meaningful difference for patients with unmet medical needs, and to create a workplace where people could thrive and feel proud of their contributions. Today, I reflect on how far we’ve come – and how those aspirations have remained at the heart of everything we do.

Music, especially jazz, has always been a personal passion and a source of joy. In jazz, each musician brings individual talent, but the magic happens when they listen, collaborate, and create harmony together. That spirit inspired the culture I hoped to build at Jazz Pharmaceuticals – one rooted in collaboration, integrity, passion, innovation, and the pursuit of excellence.

Improvisation – like innovation – is central to both jazz and the biopharmaceutical industry. But unlike music, our work must also follow strict regulatory frameworks. That’s why I often say we “innovate on top of structure” – a balance that has allowed us to bring transformative therapies to patients while staying true to our values.

Our purpose at Jazz has always been clear: to innovate to transform the lives of patients and their families. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of hearing directly from patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, scientists, and advocates. Their stories have been a constant reminder that our work is not just important – it’s deeply personal. What began as an idea has grown into a global company that has changed lives, and I’m profoundly moved by the thousands of patients we’ve helped and the thousands of employees who have built meaningful careers here.

Our culture has always been our foundation. Jazz is a great place to work because of the remarkable people who bring their best every day. I’m endlessly grateful to the current and former employees, management teams, and board members – past and present – whose dedication, leadership, and heart have shaped Jazz into the company it is today.

As I transition out of the CEO role, I’m excited to continue serving as Chair of the Board and to support Jazz’s next chapter under the exceptional leadership of Renée Galá. I’m confident that the company’s best days are still ahead – and that our mission will continue to guide every step forward.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this extraordinary journey. Leading Jazz has been the honor of my career.”
