Chrystal Paulos: Th17 Cells and B Cell Cooperation Drive Durable Tumor Immunity
Chrystal Paulos, Co-leader of the Cancer Immunology Program at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, shared a post on LinkedIn by Anna Cole et al., published in Cancer Cell.
“Our team has uncovered a powerful immune cell partnership that could change how we treat solid tumors. Published this week in Cancer Cell by Cell Press, our study shows that Th17 cells must work in tandem with B cells to eliminate solid tumors, and prevent it from spreading.
We found that durable tumor control depends on this T cell–B cell collaboration—driving germinal center formation, class-switched antibody production, and long-term antitumor protection.
We are now working to translate these insights into a novel TIL therapy for patients with checkpoint-refractory cancers.
Congratulations to co–first authors Anna Cole and Hannah Knochelmann and to Megan Wyatt, who is leading the translational development of this therapeutic strategy.
Special thanks to Dr. Gregory Lesinski for his close collaboration and critical scientific input. We also appreciate the valuable contributions of Drs. Jeremy Boss and Pawel Muranski.
This work was supported by the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, the National Cancer Institute (NCI), and the FACT VFoundation.”
