Jed Hansen: Nearly Half of All Rural Hospitals in Nebraska Operated at a Loss in 2024
Jed Hansen, Executive Director at Nebraska Rural Health Association, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Nearly half of all rural hospitals in Nebraska operated at a loss in 2024. Medicaid paid less than 0.58 per dollar of care provided.
The proposed Senate budget cuts an additional $0.21 per dollar of care. More cuts mean fewer services and more hospital and clinic closures. That’s less care for all in Greater Nebraska.
Medicaid cuts will affect all rural communities.”
Wade Swenson, Founder of Rural Cancer Institute, shared this post, adding:
“Thank you, Jed, for highlighting this issue.
Rural hospitals are already losing money caring for Medicaid patients, and the current Senate proposal would deepen those losses.
With 1 in 10 cancer patients nationwide relying on Medicaid, we urgently need legislators to champion rural hospitals and ensure access to care for rural patients.”
