“She Got a Black Service, Not an NHS Service” – Janet Clarke Responds to Lord Victor Adebowale
Janet Clarke, Engagement Lead and Communities Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, shared a post on LinkedIn:
” ‘She got a Black service, not an NHS service.’ Those words cut deep, not just because they come from
Lord Victor Adebowale CBE
, but because they echo what so many of us know, have seen, or have felt.
His mum, Grace, was a nurse. A builder of the NHS. But when she needed care, the system failed her.
This story stopped me in my tracks.
Because Grace could have been my mum.
Because stories like hers are still far too common.
Because racial inequality in healthcare isn’t abstract it’s lived, painful, and unjust. This isn’t just about the past. It’s about now.
And it’s about all of us having the courage to demand better.Rest in power, Grace. And thank you, Lord Victor Adebowale CBE for speaking truth.”
