Shrenik Shah: 55-Minute Exclusive TEDx Workshop at Indian Institute of Technology – Not With a Voice, but With a Mission
Shrenik Shah, Patient Ambassador and Moderator of Fridays with Shrenik Live webinar at Indian Cancer Society, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“9,000+ hours of public speaking.
100,000+ lives impacted.
0 vocal cords.
And on 17th May 2025, I delivered a 55-minute exclusive TEDx workshop at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur – not with a voice, but with a mission.
A mission to prove that the absence of sound is not the absence of impact.
This wasn’t a regular TEDx talk. It was an interactive session.
Real questions. Raw fears. Brave confessions.
One participant asked: “Why did you choose to become a speaker after losing your vocal cords?”
I smiled and said “Because that’s exactly why I had to.”
When you lose something that defines you, you either stay silent…
Or you redefine the meaning of expression.
Another participant stood up, visibly nervous: “I have terrible stage fear. How do I overcome it?”
I told him how I began by rewriting the alphabet.
Not A for Apple.
But A for Audience.
B for Belief.
C for Courage.
Because that’s the only ABC that matters when you’re facing a crowd or life.
We talked about vulnerability.
About embracing your scars.
About taking that first imperfect step, even if your voice shakes or doesn’t exist.
By the end of the session, the energy in the room had shifted.
From fear to curiosity.
From hesitation to courage.
It takes 1 minute to feel nervous. 5 minutes to hesitate. But sometimes, just 1 moment of courage to change everything. And that’s all it takes.
PS: If you had to rewrite the alphabet of your life, what would your ‘A’ stand for?”
