“We’re excited to welcome Dr Salvatore Vaccarella as a speaker in our upcoming webinar: ‘When Circumstances Decide: Socioeconomic Status and Cancer Inequities in Europe’! Together, we’ll explore the topic ‘Mapping Inequality Across Europe’.
Dr. Vaccarella coordinates the Cancer Inequalities Team at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). His research focuses on understanding how social and gender inequalities, along with inefficiencies in the healthcare system, contribute to disparities in cancer care.
Healthcare inefficiencies often lead to a paradox: those in greatest need receive too little care, while those with easier access may receive more than necessary – sometimes leading to overdiagnosis and overtreatment. His research aims to understand and reduce this imbalance, placing strong emphasis on the development of innovative biostatistical and epidemiological methods to identify and quantify these issues.
