Mohit Manrao: Spring Renewal – Finding Balance in our collective Fight Against Cancer

Mohit Manrao, SVP, Head of US Oncology at AstraZeneca, shared on LinkedIn:

“Spring Renewal: Finding Balance in our collective Fight Against Cancer

Spring has long been considered a moment of welcome change, bringing with it the return of balance into our lives. It’s a moment of transition, when we shift from reflection to renewal. This season of renewal is not just about the changing weather; it’s about embracing new beginnings and opportunities.

It’s a theme that resonates deeply with me right now, as we look ahead in oncology. Oncology is full of contrasts. We face hard truths and hopeful science, complex systems and deeply human stories, scientific innovation and human-centered care. Yet through all of it, there’s one constant: purpose.

We’re at a pivotal moment in cancer care. Scientific breakthroughs are happening faster than ever—from targeted therapies to biomarker-driven treatments and early detection tools. But the real test is making sure those advancements reach every patient. It’s not enough to innovate. We must ensure these innovations are making a real difference for those who need it the most.

That’s where policy and partnership matter. We need bold efforts to improve access to screening, biomarker testing, and support care models that improve patient outcomes. We must also continue removing barriers that keep underserved communities from accessing clinical trials and potentially life-saving therapies. Innovation without access is just potential left unrealized.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot since returning from our US Oncology national meeting, where we reflected on how far we’ve come and where we need to go. It left me energized. Because while oncology is one of the most challenging areas in medicine, it’s also one of the most inspiring, due to the people behind it and the patients we impact.

The dedication and passion of those working in oncology are truly remarkable, and it’s this collective effort that drives us forward.

This spring and beyond, I’m choosing to carry that sense of renewal forward. To keep pushing for bold progress while staying grounded in what matters most: patients and their families. To stay focused on a constant purpose that creates meaningful impact and our bold ambition to eliminate cancer as a cause of death.

Let’s continue building a future where innovation and compassion go hand in hand. Where science delivers, access expands, and every person facing cancer has a fighting chance.”
