Bernard Fox: A promise to pediatric cancer patients before retirement
Bernard Fox, Co-Founder, President and CEO of UbiVac, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I posted this earlier and it disappeared! So reposting.. I was reposting a Mother’s story of her 4-year-old child dying of cancer.
This was my response to that tragedy…
This is why we, teams of researchers and physicians, continue to push the envelope. To study cancer and the impact our treatments have on this dreaded disease. The ‘FIELD’ is making progress, but it will never be fast enough – particularly for children with cancer.
Today the world seems to be going crazy! However, with everything else happening in the world we continue to push. I am excited to share our progress with immunologists, NCI oncologists, investors, biotech and pharma leaders for support to move even faster!
A treatment, derived from cancers DarkGenome, that we developed in Portland at Earle A. Chiles Research Institute/Providence Cancer Institute and UbiVac as a treatment for essentially all solid cancers, including pediatric cancers, has tripled response rates (RR) for 1st and >1st line recurrent/metastatic HNSCC.
This trial is a combination immunotherapy trial performed in collaboration with Incyte – and I believe we can do much better. Looking forward to explaining this at AAI2025 PICI and AACR2025 US Angels Keiretsu Forum
Here is a photo of the shirt, ‘Gage’s Gaurdians’, given to me in 2010 by a young boy, Gage Dole, in thanks for my helping design an immunotherapy trial for him. He drew beautiful images of Angel Warriors including the one that graces my office. Every day It reminds me why I need to keep fighting…
I promised Gage I would do a trial for pediatric cancer patients before I retire.
I am planning to keep that promise.”
