Tracey O’Brien: Cancer Institute NSW has awarded six grants to support health services and community groups

Tracey O’Brien, NSW Chief Cancer Officer and CEO of the Cancer Institute NSW, shared a post on LinkedIn:

” ‘We need to celebrate the unity in our diversity’.

These words really struck a chord with me when they were shared by my colleague Sheetal Challam, a true champion for multicultural communities in NSW.

As a community, our diversity is one of our greatest strengths and at the heart of who we are as people.

In cancer control, we know that multicultural communities can experience poorer cancer outcomes, for a range of varied and complex reasons. That’s why tailored, local cancer initiatives can make a huge difference.

This Harmony Week, the Cancer Institute NSW was proud to announce the awarding of six grants to support health services and community groups to deliver culturally tailored cancer education, engaging people from more than 16 language groups.

A huge congratulations and thanks to this year’s grant recipients and to everyone doing their part to support and celebrate diversity.

Read more on the Institute’s latest Multicultural Community Education Grants recipients.”
