Rui Bergantim: Honored to publicly defend my PhD at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto
Rui Bergantim, Hematologist/Attending Physician at São João Hospital Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“One week ago, I had the honor of publicly defending my PhD thesis in Medicine and Molecular Oncology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto.
My research, ‘Searching for Biomarkers of Measurable Residual Disease and Drug Resistance in Liquid Biopsies from Multiple Myeloma Patients,’ reflects years of dedication to MM patients and my efforts to improve patient outomes.
This achievement was only possible thanks to the invaluable support of my supervisor, Professor José Eduardo Guimarães, and my co-supervisor, Professor Helena Vasconcelos. Their mentorship, expertise, and encouragement guided me throughout this journey and shaped my research and scientific growth.
I am profoundly grateful to the distinguished jury members – Professor Ana Bela Sarmento, Professor Cristina João, Professor António Almeida, Professor João Forjaz de Lacerda, Professor Rui Henrique, Professor Raquel Soares, Professor Manuel Sobrinho Simões, and Professor Fernando Schmitt – for their thoughtful questions, valuable insights, and constructive feedback, which enriched my work and provided meaningful perspectives for the future.
A special thank you to my colleagues at the Cancer Drug Resistance Group (i3S – Institute for Research and Innovation in Health) and the Hematology Department of São João Hospital Center – your collaboration and support made this journey even more rewarding.
To my friends and family, your encouragement, patience, and belief in me were the foundation that kept me going.”
