Tracey O’Brien: The Cancer Institute NSW annual Reporting Better Cancer Outcomes review meeting
Tracey O’Brien, NSW Chief Cancer Officer and CEO of the Cancer Institute NSW, shared a post LinkedIn:
“Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting with Sonia Marshall, PSM, the Chief Exec of South Western Sydney Local Health District, A/Prof Stephen Della-Fiorentina OAM, District Director of Cancer Services, and many senior executives and clinicians for the Cancer Institute NSW annual Reporting Better Cancer Outcomes (RBCO) review meeting.
The district footprint covers people living in urban and regional/remote communities across seven local government authorities and manages cancer services across five public hospitals. Highly dedicated and passionate clinical teams provide care to over 15,700 people in the region living with cancer, as well as prevention, screening and early detection cancer programs for the general population.
Standouts were many and included;
– Excellent surgical outcomes across a wide range of complex cancer surgeries in a well-consolidated and network district model
– Strength and leadership in addressing cancer inequities for priority populations
– State leadership in patient-reported outcome measures
– Significantly higher patient-experience measures compared to NSW averages on impact measures that matter most to people, such as health professionals explaining the next steps in a way that cancer patients can understand, patients feeling like they had enough time to discuss issues that matter most to them and being told who to contact with worries after appointments. excellence in cancer care for the local communities.
– High-performing clinical trial teams with over 100 cancer clinical trials open.
My sincere respect and congratulations to all the clinical and support staff working across South Western Sydney Local Health District for their commitment to delivering excellence in cancer care to the local communities.”
