Wafaa M Rashed: Pediatric Cancer Research Fund – A Battle We Cannot Afford to Lose
Wafaa M Rashed, Faculty Lecturer of pharmacy at Ahram Canadian University, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Pediatric Cancer Research Funding: A Battle We Cannot Afford to Lose.
I want to express my deep appreciation to OncoDaily for their rapid response and commitment to keeping the conversation on pediatric cancer funding at the forefront. Their investigative work and outreach to policymakers reflect what we have always believed—our voices matter. The recent cuts to pediatric cancer research funding are devastating, stripping away millions meant for children’s cancer research despite strong bipartisan support. These cuts are not just numbers in a budget; they are missed opportunities, delayed treatments, and lost lives.
I appreciate Senator Markey’s commitment to biomedical research, but let’s be clear:
- Funding research broadly is not enough. Pediatric cancer research needs dedicated, protected funding.
- Children are not small adults. Their cancers require unique treatments, not just a portion of adult cancer funds.
- Every delay costs lives. Cancer does not wait for budget negotiations – it continues to take lives every day.
To policymakers, global health leaders, and advocates: We will not stop raising our voices until pediatric cancer research is secured as a funding priority. This movement will not slow down.
How do we ensure that pediatric cancer funding remains a global priority? Let’s continue the conversation.”
