Ramy Sedhom: Navigating Psychosocial Challenges for Older Adults with Cancer
Ramy Sedhom, Assistant Professor of Hematology and Oncology at Perelman School of Medicine and Director of Medical Oncology and Palliative Care at Penn Medicine’s Princeton Medical Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“My thoughts in The ASCO Post on Navigating Psychosocial Challenges for Older Adults with Cancer:
- too little attention in our education on addressing the existential weight of dying.
- providing care for the whole pt requires deep attention to their psychosocial needs.
- the role of psycho-oncology & spiritual care is sometimes more critical than chemotherapy (it is always at least AS important).
- we need to reform our care structures: integrating supportive care, embracing the spiritual dimensions of care, acknowledging patients are more than their diagnosis.
- The kind of presence needed to honor a patient’s dignity and meaning is something no billing code can capture, something no metric can measure.”
