David M. Rubenstein, a member of the MSK Board of Trustees, was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom

Rubenstein has been involved in numerous philanthropic initiatives, supporting cultural institutions, public policy, and research, and has served on the boards of multiple organizations, including Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK).

Sheng Cai, Susan DeWolf, Michael Forte, Adam Schoenfeld, and Santosha Vardhana have been honored with the American Society for Clinical Investigation Young Physician-Scientist Award

Sheng Cai, MD, PhD, a leukemia and early drug development expert, Susan DeWolf, MD, a leukemia specialist, Michael Foote, MD, a gastrointestinal oncologist, Adam Schoenfeld, MD, a thoracic oncologist and cellular therapist, and Santosha Vardhana, MD, PhD, a lymphoma specialist, have been awarded the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) Young Physician-Scientist Award.

The YPSA honors physician-scientists in the early stages of their faculty careers who have made significant contributions to their research.

Mara Sherman was honored with the Mark Foundation 2025 Emerging Leader Award

Mara Sherman, PhD, is a distinguished early-career scientist recognized for her innovative contributions to cancer research. She was awarded the Mark Foundation 2025 Emerging Leader Award for her groundbreaking work on “Identifying Spatially Conserved Programs During Tumor-Stroma Coevolution.”

Dr. Sherman’s research focuses on understanding the complex interactions within tumors and their surrounding environments, with the goal of advancing cancer treatment strategies.

Justin Perry was awarded the 2025 Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation Innovation Award

Justin Perry, PhD, is a pioneering scientist recognized for his innovative cancer research. He received the 2025 Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation Innovation Award for his work on “Tumor-macrophage metabolic symbiosis as a driver of disease progression and therapeutic resistance.” Dr. Perry’s research focuses on understanding the metabolic interactions between tumors and immune cells, with the aim of developing new strategies to overcome cancer resistance to treatment.

Richard Matulewicz was awarded the Chanel Endowment to support his survivorship research

Richard Matulewicz, MD, MSCI, MS, is a urologic surgeon specializing in testicular cancer research and treatment. He was awarded the Chanel Endowment to fund his research on survivorship in cancer patients. His project focuses on evaluating the clinical effectiveness of two novel blood-based biomarkers, miRNA and ctDNA, in patients with both early and advanced testicular cancer.

Theresa Gillis was honored with the Distinguished Member Award by the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Theresa Gillis, MD, is a renowned rehabilitation medicine specialist and the Chief of the Rehabilitation Medicine Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She was awarded the Distinguished Member Award by the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation for her significant contributions to the field. Dr. Gillis has been recognized for her pioneering work in physiatrics, clinical practice, and her advocacy for individuals with disabilities and those at risk for disabilities.

Asia McCoy was named the recipient of the 2024 National Black Nurses Association Staff Nurse of the Year Award

Asia McCoy, BSN, RN, OCN, CNIV, is a clinical trials nurse specializing in solid tumor genitourinary medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She was honored with the 2024 National Black Nurses Association Staff Nurse of the Year Award for her exceptional academic achievements and clinical practice. Asia is recognized for her dedication to patient care and her contributions to advancing nursing practice in the oncology field.
