Aaron Sverdlov: Women may experience greater cardiotoxicity from cancer treatments

Aaron Sverdlov, Professor and Director of Heart Failure and Co-Director at Newcastle Centre of Excellence in Cardio-Oncology, shared a post on LinkedIn by Linda Worrall-Carter, Founder, Director and CEO of Her Heart, adding:

“Cardio-Oncology focuses on providing cardiovascular care that is critical for all those who are living through and beyond cancer/cancer care.

Women may experience greater cardiotoxicity from cancer treatments compared to men in addition to a range of treatment-associated hormonal and metabolic changes that increase cardiovascular risk.

It is critically important to raise awareness of the unique needs of women during and after cancer treatment to ensure best possible outcomes and long-term quality of life.

I am honoured to share a powerful video from one of our patients – Thank you, Heather, for sharing this.”

Quoting Linda Worrall-Carter’s post:

“Cardio-oncology is a relatively new area (for consumers) while researchers have been busy over the past decade or so gathering the data on the connection between those who have had cancer (and are now living longer) post cancer treatment.

This is particularly relevant to women who had breast cancer treatment and one we – at Her Heart Australia are keen to share more about by working with those who are in this space.”
