“Yesterday, on International Women in Science Day, I had the privilege of giving the “Breakthroughs in Cancer” lecture at Stanford Cancer Institute — a perfect setting to reflect on the trailblazers, innovators, and future leaders shaping cancer research and care.
Amongst the brilliant faculty, was a pleasure to reconnect with Dr Beverly Mitchell, a pioneering leader and one of the few fellow women to have ever led a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer center.
Her impact on the field continues to inspire so many! It was also wonderful to spend time with friend and colleague Dr. Melissa L Bondy, an exceptional leader whose contributions to cancer epidemiology and leadership in advancing cancer research are remarkable.
Women in science are clearly driving the breakthroughs of tomorrow. On a day dedicated to recognizing our contributions, it was a privilege to stand alongside these extraordinary leaders and reflect on how far we’ve come, and the work still ahead to ensure even more women have the opportunity to lead in STEM and oncology.
