Miriam Mutebi: Aligning with UICC’s strategic objectives for 2023-2025
Miriam Mutebi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the Aga Khan University Hospital, posted on LinkedIn:
“Last week, I arrived in Geneva in 7-degree weather (can you tell?), in time for our Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) Board meeting.
There’s a new board in place, and we met to outline the direction for the next two years.
This includes aligning with UICC’s strategic objectives for 2023-2025, which outline key priorities:
1. Advancing Global Cancer Control: UICC aims to create a world where no one dies from preventable cancer, and everyone diagnosed has access to quality treatment and care.
2. World Cancer Declaration 2025–2035: UICC plans to update this declaration to reflect the evolving needs of its members, with clear, adaptable targets across various resource settings.
3. United Nations High-Level Meeting on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in 2025: UICC is committed to advocating for ambitious, actionable targets to reduce preventable cancer cases during this critical meeting.
With the above objectives in mind, strategic planning, resource allocation, and collaborative initiatives we hope to drive these goals forward in 2025.
PS: February is here and with only ONE day to World Cancer Day on February 4, I’m reflecting on this year’s new theme, United By Unique. A call to unite for compassionate care that prioritizes people. I’ll share more on this in my next post.
In light of the same, do you have a unique story that can inspire others to advocate for people-centered cancer care?
Share below.”
