This WECAN Academy was just amazing, a very unique, patient-driven, cross-cancer training event with such amazing advocates from so many counties

In a post by Jan Geissler on Linkedin, it says, “The four days of the WECAN Academy are over. 22 speakers trained 100 cancer patient advocates from 26 countries in three tracks (advocacy tools & skills, healthcare systems & access, research & data) in 24 training sessions. We covered hot topics like NGO governance, healthcare stakeholders, drug development, evidence-based advocacy, biobanking (and not bioarchiving), interpreting scientific data, European Health Data Space, inequalities, how to influence the research agenda, financial management of NGOs, Patient-Reported Outcomes, health economics, NGO marketing and not being the victim of hidden agendas.

Great faculty with Zack Pemberton-Whiteley, Ananda Plate, Bettina Ryll, Tamás Bereczky, Gilliosa SPURRIER-BERNARD, Bettina Ryll, Neil Bertelsen, Rachel Giles, Tamas Agh, Katie Rizvi, Maria Dutarte, Silene ten Seldam, Hans Scheurer, Derick Mitchell, Kate Morgan, Judith Taylor and Jan Geissler.

Our first f2f academy organised after the pandemic – interactive, to the point, in time, and SO MUCH FUN! Brilliantly organised by Sara Dederichs and Alison Mendonca and a programme committee of 12 cancer patient advocates, plus on-site support from Mercè Cases Escuté and Linda Silva.”
