Monica Bertagnolli: Confident and healthy because of the results of many decades of NIH-funded research
Monica Bertagnolli, 17th Director of the National Institutes of Health, shared on LinkedIn:
“I am a breast cancer survivor, and I am confident, healthy and thriving because of the results of many decades of NIH-funded research. I am so grateful for our nation’s long history of support for a wide range of basic scientists and clinical researchers whose work guided my treatment.
I think often of the courage and altruism of the many thousands of women who trusted in science and agreed to be research participants, even though it was not clear that their participation would ever benefit them directly. So many of us owe our health to publicly-funded research, and at this time of challenge we must support the NIH, whose activities are the envy of the world. Our lives depend upon it.”
