Siobhan Freeney: Why Women need to be fully informed about their Personal Breast Density
Siobhan Freeney, Founder of Lobular Ireland and Patient Advocate Founder of Being Dense, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“There are so many reasons why Women need to be told and fully informed about their Personal Breast Density.
1. Breast density is a well-established predictor of breast cancer risk.
2. High breast density is a greater risk factor than having two first degree relatives with breast cancer.
3. ‘Breast density is one of the strongest predictors of the failure of mammography to detect cancer’
(Nancy and Joe Cappello)
4. If a Mammogram shows that a Woman has Dense breasts – she should be routinely notified
5. Breast Cancer is missed on Mammograms of Women who have Dense Breasts
No Woman should have to wait until after a Breast cancer Diagnosis to be told ‘You have Dense Breasts'”
