Nick Grant: A Bold and Collaborative Programme for Cancer Prevention
Nick Grant, Executive Director, Strategy & Philanthropy at Cancer Research UK, shared a post by Cancer Research UK (CRUK) on LinkedIn:
“‘Big data’ in action. A bold and highly collaborative programme which could change the future of cancer early detection and prevention.”
Quoting Cancer Research UK (CRUK)’s post:
“Together with the NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research), the EPSRC, Health Data Research UK (HDR UK), and ADR UK, we’re working on a new £10m programme which will help identify individual cancer risk.
Early detection can help save lives. That’s because catching cancer at an earlier stage, when it hasn’t spread, means it is more likely to be treated successfully.
That’s why together we’re funding The Cancer Driven Data Detection Programme, which hopes to be able to predict someone’s chances of getting cancer, which could help with earlier detection and prevention.
Using data from several areas, including family history and genomics, as well as medical history and demographics, researchers will produce statistical models that can help them to accurately predict who is most likely to get cancer.
This new collaborative approach is another milestone in our mission to give people more time with the people that they love.
