Lawrence “Larry” Deist Appointed to Board of Directors at Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research

Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research has announced Lawrence “Larry” Deist as a distinguished member of its board of directors.

Lawrence “Larry” Deist has built a distinguished career across aviation, military service, and nonprofit leadership.

Currently, he serves as a Captain with Delta Air Lines, a role he has held since 2000.

In this capacity, Larry flies the B-757/767 aircraft, overseeing both domestic and international flights.

With more than 20 years of experience, he is responsible for ensuring the safety and operational efficiency of each flight, managing complex flight conditions, and leading a crew to deliver a smooth passenger experience.

Beyond his role at Delta, Larry is deeply involved with the Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research, having been on the board since 2006.

The Rally Foundation is dedicated to supporting research for childhood cancer and improving the lives of young patients and their families.

Larry’s leadership is critical to the foundation’s work, where he also serves as Vice President and Co-Chairman of the Sponsorship Committee. In this capacity, he helps lead fundraising efforts, secure sponsorships, and raise awareness about the urgent need for childhood cancer research.

Larry’s military career is equally impressive. He served for 30 years in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Colonel.

His last position was Deputy Director of Special Air Missions at the Pentagon, where he oversaw the planning and execution of specialized airlift operations for senior military and government officials.

His role was pivotal in ensuring the success of critical missions, including transporting high-ranking officials and coordinating complex logistics under high-pressure situations.

Larry holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Delaware and a Master of Arts in Aviation/Airway Management and Operations from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

His educational background, combined with his professional experience in aviation and military service, has equipped him with a unique set of skills in leadership, logistics, and strategic planning.

Throughout his career, Larry has shown a deep commitment to service.

Whether flying passengers at Delta, leading special air missions in the Air Force, or supporting childhood cancer research, he has dedicated himself to making a meaningful impact in each area.

His broad experiences and leadership roles reflect his ability to adapt, overcome challenges, and make a difference in the lives of others.
