Training and temporally validating an NTCP model of acute toxicity after whole breast radiotherapy

A recent paper by Monica Maria Vincenzi, AIRC Researcher in Medical Physics at San Raffaele Scientific Institute, published in Radiotherapy and Oncology, was mentioned by Elisabetta Bonzano, Radiation Oncologist at IRCCS San Matteo Polyclinic Foundation, on X:

“Training and temporally validating an NTCP model of acute toxicity after whole breast radiotherapy, including the impact of advanced delivery techniques”

Authors: Monica Maria Vincenzi, Alessandro Cicchetti, Roberta Castriconi, Andrei Fodor, Claudio Fiorino et al.

Training and temporally validating an NTCP model of acute toxicity after whole breast radiotherapy

“Training and temporally validating an NTCP model of acute toxicity after whole breast radiotherapy, including the impact of advanced delivery techniques.

  • Data of 1570 patients receiving WBI (40 Gy/15fr) were available.
  • An NTCP model for acute toxicity (TOX) was trained on 878 3d-CRT patients (2009–2017)
  • Skin V20Gy was the major predictor, with two clinical factors playing a minor role.
  • The model was temporally validated (2017–2021, n = 692, 3d-CRT/VMAT/TD)
  • Skin V20Gy predicts TOX in both 3d-CRT/TD (n = 404) and VMAT (n = 288) sub-groups.”
