Amol Akhade: Physicians should accept materialistic gifts?

Amol Akhade, Senior consultant medical oncologist and hemato-oncologist at Suyog Cancer Clinics and Reliance Hospitals, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“I am sure as treating oncologist, all of us get letters of appreciation from our patients. And we accept them and sometimes display them in our clinics .

But should we accept materialistic gifts ( chocolates, cakes, any other gifts like watches or any other small item) from our patients?

Should we attend their family function ( birth days or Marriage in family or any similar function? ) when they are on treatment or on active follow up?

What do you do?

I generally avoid and follow strictly professional interaction only .

What’s my colleague and friend oncologist across the world do?

Vote on this survey on Twitter and let me know.”
