‘Voice of the families’: Jimmawork and her father – CANCaRe Africa
CANCaRe Africa shared on LinkedIn:
“‘Voice of the families’, Post 24 Jimmawork and her father.
Jimmawork is a 6-year-old girl from Meti in Ethiopia. She lives about 426 kilometers away from the hospital in Jimma. She was referred to Jimma University Medical Center (JUMC). After the family refused treatment, they sought care at private clinics, where she was misdiagnosed.
Nearly a year later, she was referred back to JUMC and was diagnosed with cancer. Jimmawork, is now actively undergoing treatment. Her family has benefited from the Zero Abandonment from Start to Finish project, which provides financial support to reduce the economic burden on families of childhood cancer patients.
Jimmawork’s father shared that the support from the hospital, both financial and emotional, restored his trust in the healthcare system and helped him better understand the disease and its treatment.
With a family of five children—four daughters and one son—he acknowledged the challenges of managing treatment. The family is now hopeful. Thanks to the ongoing support and care from JUMC and the Zero Abandonment project.
Appropriate consent given.”
