Joanna Strober: Not a day goes by that I don’t think about Susan Wojcicki
Joanna Strober, CEO and Founder of Midi Health, shared on LinkedIn
“It’s been almost 4 months since Susan Wojcicki passed away from lung cancer and not a day goes by that I don’t think about her. I find myself asking her advice … and often, she answers!
As discussed in this article, Susan did not learn she had lung cancer until it was stage 4. She was one of the healthiest people I know, so it was unfathomable.
The entire time Susan was fighting cancer, she talked about not wanting others to suffer like her.
Her type of lung cancer was more deadly than breast cancer, colon cancer and prostate cancer combined and it often attacks youngish female non smokers. It’s estimated that about two-thirds of lung cancer cases in never-smokers are in women.
We need better screenings for lung cancer and to identify genetic markers that indicate a higher likelihood so those people can get annual testing.
I think about this all the time at Midi Health. Fully 25 percent of the women who come to us are not up to date on their colonoscopies and mammograms. These cancers are treatable when identified early … get tested!
We cannot fight what we cannot see and early detection is key.
Sharing a photo from my baby shower 26 years ago… at the time we probably thought we would celebrate family events together for the next 50 years minimum…..
Please read her letter… she wanted us to share and take lung cancer seriously.. and invest to find better screenings and treatments.”
