Christian P. Pallasch: Pallasch lab’s latest study on Pentose Phosphate Pathway Inhibition published in Cell Reports Medicine
Christian P. Pallasch, Professor at University Hospital of Cologne, shared on LinkedIn:
“Thrilled to announce our lab’s latest publication in Cell Reports Medicine!
Our team has made significant strides in understanding immune metabolism and its impact on lymphoma therapy.
The study, titled ‘Pentose Phosphate Pathway Inhibition activates Macrophages towards phagocytic Lymphoma Cell Clearance,’ reveals groundbreaking insights into improving immunotherapy efficacy.
Key Findings:
• Pentose Phosphate Pathway (PPP) inhibition enhances macrophage effector function in lymphoma.
• PPP inhibition decreases macrophage support for lymphoma cell survival and increases phagocytic clearance.
• In vivo PPP inhibition rewires macrophage maturation and activation.
• Combining PPP inhibitor S3 with therapeutic antibody therapy significantly prolongs survival in aggressive B-cell lymphoma mouse models.
This research demonstrates that the PPP is a key regulator and targetable modulator of macrophage activity in lymphoma, offering a promising approach to enhance antibody-based immunotherapies.
Huge congratulations to first author Anna Beielstein and the entire team at the Pallasch lab for this outstanding work!
Very special thanks to our collaborators Coral Barbas, Hallek Michael, Winkels Lab, and Elena Izquierdo for their invaluable contributions.
This publication represents a significant step forward in our understanding of immune metabolism and its role in shaping the lymphoma microenvironment and therapy outcomes.
We’re excited about the potential implications for improving cancer treatments!”
