Karen Knudsen: This guideline is a critical step in reducing the number of lung cancer deaths due to smoking history

Karen Knudsen shared a post on LinkedIn:

“In an effort to reduce lung cancer mortality rates, the American Cancer Society’s new guideline recommends annual lung cancer screening for people aged 50-80 who smoke or formerly smoke and have a 20-year or greater pack.

This guideline is a critical step in reducing the number of lung cancer deaths due to smoking history. Research shows that expanding the screening age, eliminating the “years since quitting” requirement, and lowering the pack per year recommendation can lead to improved outcomes and more deaths prevented.”
