Three areas where the EU Cancer Plan has room for improvement – Association of European Cancer Leagues

Association of European Cancer Leagues shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Cancer remains to be one of the greatest economic, social and health challenges Europe faces today, with a new cancer diagnosis taking place every nine seconds.

Speaking at a special panel during the European Cancer Summit, our President Ramon Reyes highlighted three areas where the EU Cancer Plan still has room for improvement.

  1. Tobacco is the single most important risk factor for cancer, responsible for over 30% of cases in Europe. But much more needs to be done to achieve the first tobacco-free generation.
  2. Many novel cancer treatments and medication are extremely expensive. Acting as a single buyer would allow the EU to bring its market power of 500 million citizens to the negotiation table and lower prices.
  3. To improve cancer care, we need to better understand the gaps across EU member states. A European Cancer Inequalities Registry can help highlight those areas that need to be strengthened.

Together, we must keep doing everything we can to keep cancer care and prevention on top of the European political agenda.

Read our demands to intensify the fight against cancer.

A big thanks to the European Cancer Organisation for a great event!”
