Before taking the helm at Moffitt, Dr. Hwu’s illustrious career included a distinguished tenure at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, one of the world’s leading cancer centers. Over the course of 17 years, Dr. Hwu held several critical leadership roles, demonstrating a deep commitment to advancing cancer treatment and research. In 2003, he was recruited as the first Chairman of the Department of Melanoma Medical Oncology, a position that allowed him to focus on some of the most challenging and complex forms of cancer.

Dr. Hwu’s academic journey began with his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania, followed by a prestigious fellowship in oncology at the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
